Beat Junkies Concert With Special Guest DJ Nu-Mark

Photos by Charles Purnell

The Beat Junkies with special guest DJ Nu-Mark performed Nov.5 at the Garden Amp in Garden Grove, Calif. The event was almost sold out.

The entire Beat Junkie Crew performed including DJ Curse, DJ D-Styles, DJ Melo-D, DJ Babu and DJ Rhettmatic. DJ Nu-Mark scratched, mixed and made beats on the fly for an hour for his guest performance.

The Beat Junkies promoted their new beer brand, Sure Shot IPA, by passing out free beer. They also gave out prizes for raffle winners and spectators who answered trivia questions correctly.

Although Mr Choc performed a mix set, he was the main MC for the evening. "Ladies and Gentlemen! Brothas and sistas! One of the best DJ's in the muthafuckin' world. Make some noise for our brother for DJ Nu-Mark!" he said. "We need to pour some Sure Shot on the turntables to put these muthafuckas out."

DJ D-Styles proving he's one of the best scratchers in the world.

Melo D started his set with some Wu-Tang Clan. Scratched and blended some soul music and then scratched on Rodney O and Joe Cooley's Everlasting Bass.

Mr. Choc vibing and mixing to Brand Nubians "Punks Jump Up to Get Beat Down."

Dj Rhettmatic Jammin' his ass off to Slick Rick and a couple of other jams.

Here's DJ Babu with what I called sort of a chopped and screwed style of mixing. To me it's chopped and screwed LA style.

DJ Babu knocked a verse from "Pink Cookies in a Plastic Bag" by LL Cool J. Just when I thought he'd play the song for us, he chopped and screwed it and made a new style of beat.

See for yourself why DJ Nu-Mark is the best in the game. The homie gets down. Nuff said.
